The Glasgow Common Council adopted a new logo for the city Monday by LLC.
The previous logo consists of a white triangle within a dark circle, and at the tips of the triangle were a cross, a harp and a caduceus, which is the image of two snakes entwined along a staff, used to represent the medical profession. At the base of the triangle is “1799,” the year the city was established.
Those three symbols and the words “City of Glasgow” and “Kentucky” are then within another circle with a white background. The new symbol is simply the word “Glasgow,” slightly rounded, as if it were sitting atop a circle, with “Kentucky” below it.
Other business not already reported by Glasgow News 1 includes the following, with all members present and all votes unanimous:
— Approval of second reading of an ordinance closing to pedestrian traffic only an accessway of approximately 10 feet wide behind buildings that are along the 100 block of East Washington Street;
— Approval of first reading of an ordinance adopting a new supplement to update the Code of Ordinances;
— Approval of first reading of an ordinance to change the zoning of a property approximately 1,200 feet northeast of North L. Rogers Wells Boulevard at Happy Valley Road from general business (B-2) district to light industrial (I-1) district;
— Approval of first reading of an ordinance to change the zoning of properties at 109 and 135 Moran (formerly Myrtle) Street from I-1 to B-3 (highway service business) district; and
— Approval of a resolution authorizing the city to dispose of surplus property from the Parks and Recreation Department and the Department of Public Works.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the council is at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.
