Welcome to Glasgow News 1, a service venture from Commonwealth Broadcasting Corp.
Since word first started circulating about the launch of our online news and information efforts, we’ve heard from several residents wanting to get more insight into our efforts. We thought it might be helpful for us to go on public record about what our intentions are and what motivated us to begin this service.
• We want to provide a balanced and clear source of information about what is happening in Glasgow/Barren County.
• We want to gain the trust and confidence of those visiting our site, and we expect to accomplish that by providing accurate coverage of the events shaping our community.
• We know there will be disagreements of policy between good, well-intended individuals who see an issue from different views. When that happens, we want to report the facts, report the differing perspectives and make sure readers can learn about and understand those differing viewpoints.
• We are committed to good journalism, and we have hired professional journalists to report to our readers. We will hold ourselves to high journalistic standards.
• We intend to be a positive influence in Glasgow and Barren County, but we know there will be circumstances where we must cover issues or report on situations that are difficult or emotionally charged. When that occurs, we will focus on fact-based reporting and treat all involved fairly, regardless of their influence or status.
Glasgow/Barren County is home to our company. We are products of this community, and we are dedicated to contributing to a stronger future for our residents. We believe our residents, when provided with clear and factual information about what issues are being considered and what decisions are being made, will reach a correct conclusion.
We are human and despite our very best efforts, we will make mistakes. When we do, we will acknowledge it and promptly correct it. Time will demonstrate our commitment to that promise.
While it’s certainly not our only motivation, we hope this venture is financially self-sustaining.
Finally, our community needs unity. We hope to have a positive impact on creating that atmosphere. Yet, when there is something that divides our residents, our objective is to be a source of facts, details and information that will enable everyone to better understand all positions and, if possible, reach a collaborative resolution to move ahead.
