Royse wins big in Glasgow mayoral race

Royse greeted friends who gathered to congratulate him post election.

In a landslide win, Henry Royse was voted the new mayor of Glasgow, according to figures collected from polling locations and compiled by Glasgow News 1 / Commonwealth Broadcasting Corp. team members. His opponent W. Keith Rowlett received less than a quarter of a votes Royse did.
Unofficial election results from the county clerk’s office were still unavailable at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.
“I grew up here, and I spent my entire career here promoting good things that happen in the community. I am 65 and it was time for me to give back if I was going to,” Royse told GN1 in a postelection interview.
Royse said he was not only is excited to see what he can do for the community in the role of mayor, he was pleased with the election in general.
“It was exciting to see such a turnout. There seems to be a renewed sense of excitement around the election.”
He also spoke well of his opponent: “Mr. Rowlett is the the finest gentleman you could ask to meet.”
Glasgow will only have one new council member, Max Marion, with all the current members who sought re-election returning. Current Councilman Wendell Honeycutt did not seek another term.
