Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher narrowly pulled out a win in Tuesday’s general election to retain his seat for another four years to add to the decade he’s already been there, based on numbers collected from polling locations and compiled by Glasgow News 1 / Commonwealth Broadcasting Corp. team members.
Unofficial tallies from the county clerk’s office were still unavailable as of 11:30 p.m.
Hatcher’s closest opponent was Leticia Cline, currently a councilwoman, with J.R. Poynter coming in third.
“I’m very excited and very honored and humbled that the residents of Cave City put confidence in me for another term,” Hatcher said. “We’re a team. Me, myself, I can’t accomplish anything but as a city and working together, I’m excited about what the next term may bring. I feel like we’ve had some growth and some prosperity here in town and I’m just excited for what the future can hold for us, working together.”
He attributed the win to the people, trying to do what’s right, working with people and having a good team and so much help from different sectors of the city.
“I feel like we’ve made considerable progress, but we still have a lot of work to do, still a lot of things that we want to see for our town and our county, and just move forward from this point,” Hatcher said. “We do have some new council members. I’m looking forward to working with them. The governing body is not just the mayor; it’s your council and also your staff around you, your city employees and all that, and then listening to the people and actually what they want and what they consider important and those types of things.”
He said he aims to continue putting his heart and soul into his role and looks forward to everyone’s working together.
All four of the council incumbents – Steve Pedigo, Beverly Tobin Ford, Denny Doyle and Kevin Houchens — who sought re-election to the city council will be returning, according to those preliminary figures, and Brandon Wright and Ashlyn Hudson are the two newcomers, garnering the second- and fourth-most votes out of a field of 12 seeking the six seats.
