The county judge-executive’s office announced Tuesday morning that the county has been awarded $3 million in Community Project Funding from the federal government for two local projects.
Barren County has had two projects on the horizon, including a bridge widening and the South Cooper Industrial Park.

A $2 million appropriation for a Community Project Funding grant has been approved for Barren County to widen a bridge, where the truck is at upper left, that is adjacent to a curve on Roseville Road just south of Trojan Trail and add a turn lane for northbound traffic going onto Trojan Trail from Roseville Road, which would be in the foreground here. The South Cooper project has been appropriated the full $1 million requested, and that grant award was announced last week by the Barren County Economic Authority.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said she was notified last week that the requests for Community Project Funding submitted through U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie’s office were awarded in the amount of $3 million, covering the total project costs of both.
Funding meant for the widening of a bridge on Ky. 249, also known as Roseville Road, just south of Trojan Trail and the construction of a designated lane for northbound traffic to turn left onto Trojan Trail has been appropriated the full $2 million amount that was requested for it as well, Byrd told Glasgow News 1.
Ky. 249 is a state-maintained highway.
The requests, which were made early last year, were a collaborative effort among several, Byrd said, adding that they were championed by Kylie Foushee, a Glasgow resident who is a field representative for Guthrie and also serves as his economic development director.
The timelines for the projects to be completed are subject to the release of funds to the county by the federal government, but both projects will bring much-needed updates to the county, the press release states.
Byrd stated via the release, “We are thrilled that both of the projects that were applied for have been fully funded. We are extremely thankful to Congressman Brett Guthrie and his staff for their assistance and support to secure the funding applied for.”
The new judge-executive added there that it was just the beginning for such coordinated efforts “to move Barren County forward and bring new growth and revitalization to the community.”
