Madeline Dearnell
Madeline Workman Dearnell, 95, of Horse Cave died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Logan County, West Virginia on January 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Pearl Dempsey and Robert Workman. She grew up in a coal-mining and farming community with her four brothers and three sisters.
She made her profession of faith early in life and was a longtime member of the Life Gate Church of God. Madeline was the epitome of the woman in Proverbs 31, whose children “rise up and call her blessed.” She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader and a loving gardener.
She is survived by her daughters, Rebekah Sode and husband Carl of Greensburg, and Renee Sprankle and husband Dale of Horse Cave; stepchildren, Patricia Kirk of Newark, Ohio, and Jim Dearnell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Luke Sode, Sheyenne Palmore, Sierra Swan, Susie Brewer, Carol Spaulding, June Hannah, Janina Spencer and Tony Stoud; 14 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ireland James Dearnell; stepdaughter, Linda Stoud; two stepsons-in-law, Harmon Stoud and Carl Kirk; two grandchildren, Diana Staugh and Carlos Kirk; and one great-grandchild, Cassie Nicole Brewer.
Memorial service is at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel in Cave City. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul Randell Dunbar, 89, of Gainesville, Florida, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022. A native of Jamestown, Kentucky, he was born March 13, 1933, a son of the late Samuel and Verta Lela Dunbar.
Paul graduated from Temple Hill High School in 1953. Right out of high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served until Oct. 3, 1957. When he got out of the Navy, he joined the Glasgow Police Department. In 1968, he moved from Glasgow to Gainesville, Florida, and joined the Gainesville Police Department where he retired as a lieutenant after 30 years. He was a faithful member of North Central Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe (Barbara) Dunbar and Carl (Ann) Dunbar; his sister-in-law, Jean Dunbar; a nephew, Gary Jo Dunbar; and a niece, Debbie Toms.
Paul is survived by his brothers, Ralph and Lyle (Nora) Dunbar; his sisters, Arlene (Cecil) Bertram and Ruth Ann (Walter) Clark; 18 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews.
Funeral service was Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, in Hopkinsville, with burial in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville. A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
