Edith Piercy, 27, of Cave City who had been deputy jailer at the Barren County Detention Center, was arrested and charged with first-degree promoting contraband and engaging in organized crime. Two individuals who already had been lodged at the jail were also charged in the connection with the incident(s), Glasgow News 1 has learned.
Piercy was booked in Friday morning as an inmate at what had become her former place of employment but then released, according to the local jail website; however, the Warren County Regional Jail website shows that she was subsequently booked there and remained lodged Friday afternoon in lieu of a $20,000 cash bond.
Ron Lafferty, director of the Barren River Drug Task Force, said when contacted by GN1 that the contraband in question was illegal drugs. The inmates, the charges against whom are identical to Piercy’s, are Amber Diane Huff, 23, of Glasgow and Shasta Vaughn, 35, of London.
Jailer Aaron Shirley said Piercy already was employed there when he started his term in office in December about a week early, and he provided a possible start date of May 16 of last year but added there was some uncertainty involved with that date.
Lafferty said Shirley contacted the DTF on Dec. 28 and requested an independent investigation into how drugs were getting into the facility, and interviews, electronic data and other investigatory techniques led them to the suspects. He said Piercy’s employment had been terminated after the investigation into the alleged incident(s) began. Since then, a Barren County grand jury returned indictments on the trio.
