James ‘Jimmy’ Roland McKinney, 80

James “Jimmy” McKinney
James “Jimmy” Roland McKinney, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 80. He was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Louisville. His adoptive parents were the late Mora “Mac” and Bessie McKinney.
Jimmy attended duPont Manual High School in Louisville. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army and then the Air Force. James moved to Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands, where he owned and operated Warren Custom Brokerage. He also lived in O’ahu Hawaii, where he worked as a civilian at Schofield Barracks. Once he returned to Kentucky, he was reunited with Linda, his high school sweetheart, and they married in 1994. In retirement, they moved to Manchester, Tennessee. This is where they enjoyed the quiet and simple life of rural living. He loved to spend time outdoors working in his yard; he was a collector of cats and loved a good cigar. Jimmy had a smile that would light up a room and was a devoted Christian who led by example. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Louisville. Jimmy loved all his pets, especially his cat and constant companion, Tigger. Over his lifetime, he traveled the world, always interested in other cultures and meeting new people along the way.
He leaves to cherish in his memory two daughters, Tina Marie McKinney (Christopher) and Christine Ann McKinney; one stepson, Robert Vaughn; grandchildren; and one brother, J.R. Penix.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda McKinney, and his son, Patrick McKinney.
