Through an extensive collaboration, Glasgow will be welcoming another disc golf park.
The Barren Inc. Lead Forward program is partnering with the Cordell Jamison Foundation and the Glasgow Parks and Recreation Department to raise funding and complete a full 18-hole disc golf course at Weldon Park.
“The Cordell Jamison Foundation has completed a similar project recently at Gorin Park that you may have seen. We are currently raising funding for this project and would love for anyone to reach out if they would like to get involved,” said Jud Perkins, project chair for Barren Inc. Lead Forward.
The Lead Forward program is organized by Barren Inc. and is intended to educate up-and-coming leaders in our community.
“Each year an application process occurs, and after being selected the members participate in a leadership retreat to get to know fellow classmates. After the retreat we have been meeting for monthly sessions that highlight different sectors of the community. These sectors include education, law and justice, civic/nonprofit, economic development, healthcare, agribusiness, and tourism/quality of life. During these day sessions we will meet with different community leaders in their sector and learn about their operations, day-to-day challenges, and success stories. After completing each day session, we will travel to a similarly sized community and tour there to see how we compare and how we can improve our community,” said Cody Richardson, project co-chair for Barren Inc. Lead Forward.
In essence, this project is an extension of the vision of the Cordell Jamison Foundation.
“The Cordell Jamison Foundation was created by Glasgow natives Cord Glass and Brock Johnson. They were both very active in local sports growing up and created the foundation to give back to the community and provide a fun and free activity for the entire community to participate in. They completed an 18-hole disc golf course located at Gorin Park, and it was such a success that they immediately began planning a follow-up project at Weldon with desire and assistance provided by Glasgow Parks and Recreation and the Barren Inc. Lead Forward program,” Richardson said.
The course names are Creekside at Gorin and The Woods at Weldon.
