Long before the internet and cell phones in every pocket, entertainment looked different.
The epitome of local fun and entertainment for people of all ages, from 1980 to when it closed in 1995, was Wheels Skating Centre along Happy Valley Road in Glasgow. It was managed by Don Handy.
Today, the former roller-skating rink houses Borders Monument Co. and is amid the hustle and bustle of business; when it was constructed, it was on of the outskirts of town, far from the business district.
Because Glasgow was the proverbial hub for the area, the rink served Barren, Hart, Metcalfe and Edmonson counties.
The scenes from the 80’s in these submitted photos are representative of the typical atmosphere, attire and life of Wheels Skating Centre.
