Barren County High School student Abigail Nuetzman was awarded first place in the public service announcement competition at the Future Business Leaders of America’s Kentucky state convention earlier this week.
FBLA is a student-based, co-curricular, career and technical education organization that allows students to learn about all areas of business and entrepreneurship through a variety of competitive events and projects. The local chapter is based out of the Barren County Area Technology Center.
“As a local chapter officer and FBLA member, I had the pleasure of competing in the Public Service Announcement event at both the regional and state levels. I created a 30-second public service announcement and presented the video in a five-minute presentation in front of a panel of judges,” Nuetzman said. “I am proud to say that I placed first at the state level, and will have the opportunity to compete at the National Leadership Conference this summer.”
Nuetzman is also an intern at Commonwealth Broadcasting Corp.
Other local first-place winners at the state leadership conference were: Rheanna Britt in the advertising category and the team of Julie Johnson, Will Brody Spillman and Tate Spillman for chapter nametag.
In addition, the following local FBLA members placed in their respective statewide competition categories: Aleia Kate Harper, third place, future business leader; Carly Turner, third place, website design; Grant Harper, third place, electronic career portfolio; Madeline Prichard, fourth place, client service; Jace Newton, fifth place, agribusiness; Liberty Pedigo, fifth place, business management; and the team of Tinsley Neagle, Riley Reed, Kennady Rush and Mikah Wix, fifth place, local chapter annual business report.
The FBLA National Leadership Conference takes place in Atlanta in June. Future business leaders from across the country will compete.
