After two additional pretrial conferences since one on March 20 during which his attorney expressed hope that a plea deal could still happen, the trial for Inell Crayton is still set to begin May 16.
At Monday’s pretrial conference, the second in as many consecutive Mondays, defense attorney Lee Davis said it appeared the trial will be going forward, and a new pretrial conference was set for May 9.
Crayton is charged with murder in relation to the death of Ke’Shawn Sarver, 22, at Sarver’s home in Cave City at the end of December 2018. He has remained lodged at the Barren County Detention Center since Jan. 1, 2019, in lieu of a $1 million cash bond.
Crayton had two co-defendants, with Devonja Sweat, now 26, originally facing a murder charge that was later dropped, among others. Ultimately, Sweat pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and tampering with physical evidence and was sentenced to approximately 13 years; he’s required to serve 85 percent of that before being eligible for parole.
Kayla Anderson, also now 26, still faces her original charge of tampering with physical evidence, but her case has been pending until Crayton’s is resolved. She’s been out of jail on a $50,000 surety bond since Feb. 13, 2019.

Bennett update

Cheryl Leighanne Bennett

Meanwhile, Cheryl Leighanne Bennett was rearrested Saturday after Circuit Judge John T. Alexander on Thursday ordered that a bench warrant to be issued after he had received a report leading him to conclude that there was probable cause she had violated one or more conditions of bond.
The report from You Turn said Bennett tested positive for methamphetamine April 20.
Bennett and her mother, Donna Logsdon, are charged with murder in relation to the death of Michael “Mickey” O. Logsdon in July. He was their father and husband, respectively.
According to the Barren County Detention Center website, she is due back in court May 1 one in relation to this latest issue.
Both the defendants are due in court May 22 for their next pretrial conference. Johnny Bell and Martin Peterson are the defense attorneys for both.
