Despite the voiced hopes of his attorney that a plea agreement could be reached before Inell Crayton’s trial begins May 16, that has not occurred.
Crayton is charged with murder in relation to the death of Ke’Shawn Sarver, 22, at Sarver’s home in Cave City in late December 2018.
The defendant, 27, appeared in Barren Circuit Court on Tuesday via Zoom from the Barren County Detention Center, where he has remained lodged in lieu of a $1 million cash bond since Jan. 1, 2019; his attorney, Lee Davis, was in the courtroom and said no such resolution had come to pass.
Davis and Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner each noted Tuesday that they have one or two pretrial motions to get on the record and discussed ensuring that each side was provided with all the evidence from the other to which they are entitled, and they agreed to be in court early on the 16th for any discussion related to motions that is necessary at the time.
Crayton had two co-defendants, with Devonja Sweat, also now 27, originally facing a murder charge that was later dropped, among others. Ultimately, Sweat pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and tampering with physical evidence and was sentenced to approximately 13 years; he’s required to serve 85 percent of that before being eligible for parole.
Kayla Anderson, now 26, still faces the same original charge of tampering with physical evidence, but her case has been pending until Crayton’s is resolved. She’s been out of jail on a $50,000 surety bond since Feb. 13, 2019.
