Chris Underwood changed course in life when he partnered with Michael and Jamie Ballard to open a food trailer. With the help of Chris’s brother Cory, who designed the logo and named the business, they opened Taste Budz Food Trailer LLC. They didn’t know what to expect.
“I started catering in 2010. I was introduced to Michael and Jamie Ballard and we put our heads together. Michael purchased the food truck and got the ball rolling,” Chris Underwood said.
They are in their third year of business and the community feedback has been positive and profound, he said. That has led to Taste Budz being nominated for Kentucky Living magazine’s Best Food Truck award.
“It has told us we are headed in the right direction. If we come in third we were still recognized. The nomination is a huge deal. When we got the phone call we weren’t having a good day, but the call took it all away,” Chris Underwood said.
“We are the type of people, we put a product out that we like to eat, they get it the way we like it. Most if the time we find it is the way others like it to, because we want people to have good, quality food,” he said.
Their grilled chicken salad is one of their unexpected best dishes.
“We have a homemade house dressing, Moo’s Sweet Garlic, named after Maddie — Michael and Jamie’s daughter. People love it,” he said.
Underwood thanked the customers who have made Taste Budz a regular stop.
“We are ecstatic and so humbled. We are just a couple of regular old dudes out here doing what we love.” he said.
Voting opened to the public on May 1, according to the Kentucky Living website. To vote, visit kentuckyliving.com. Winners will be announced in August, and published in the September issue of the magazine.
