The man accused of fatally shooting Roger L. Noland, 35, of Scottsville on Feb. 10 appeared in Barren Circuit Court on Monday for arraignment.
James Edward Campbell, 46, is charged with murder in relation to Noland’s death that followed an alleged confrontation in the parking lot outside Campbellās residence in Glasgow.
Campbell is also charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment due to the fact that two other people are believed to have been in Noland’s vicinity when the shots were fired. Noland was transported after the incident to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
After a preliminary hearing in February in Barren District Court, the case was forwarded to a grand jury, which returned an indictment in April.
Meanwhile, Campbell was released from the Barren County Detention Center on March 29 on a $500,000 unsecured bond, according to the jail website.
In court on Monday, Campbell’s defense attorney, Johnny Bell, after ensuring the defendant’s address was updated for the court’s records to one in Edmonton, acknowledged receipt of the indictment and that his client was the person named in the document. He entered a plea of not guilty on Campbell’s behalf.
The next step was to set a date for the first pretrial conference.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Resa Gardner suggested that, due to “the nature of the charges and the amount of discovery, sometime in July would probably be best.”
After slightly more discussion, 10 a.m. July 31 was chosen.
