A pair of Nashville, Tenn. residents had their initial appearance in Barren County Circuit Court on Thursday. They were arrested Monday night after leading Kentucky State Police troopers on a chase through Barren County and into Hart County. Troopers were on the look out for the pair because Tennessee police had notified KSP to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle.

On Monday, Kentucky State Police Post 3 was contacted by a police department in Franklin, Tenn., in regard to a stolen vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 65 in Warren County. The vehicle was equipped with a live tracker on it and was able to be kept up with by KSP dispatch.

According to a citation, Trooper Bo Hubbard observed the vehicle pass him while stationed at the 47 mile marker northbound. Hubbard was advised that the couple, Dawayne Young and and Natalie Catalan, had robbed two Uber drivers at gun point in Tennessee. The couple had stolen the black 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. Catalan told authorities later they were planning to use the car to get to Young’s residence in Michigan.

Hubbard began following the stolen vehicle joined by Trooper Evan Smith and attempted to stop the car, which slowed and began to pull to the shoulder, but as the troopers began to exit their cruisers, Young and Catalan sped off fleeing the scene. Troopers Hubbard and Smith pursued and chased the couple from the 49 mile marker to the 58 mile marker with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

At the 58 mile marker, Young took an exit and struck a guardrail ending the chase. After detaining the couple, troopers observed a gun in the driver-side floorboard, which was collected for evidence. A search of the vehicle yielded a bottle containing small white pills, Young identified as Roxicodone, a strong and addictive narcotic. Troopers also located a black backpack containing two large bags full of THC oil vape cartridges and a jar full of marijuana wax.

Young took full responsibility for the gun and drugs and stated that Catalan was not aware of the substances found. Young would not comment further on the vehicle other than acknowledging it was stolen. At the time of the arrest Young, admitted to taking multiple Roxicodones as well as snorting cocaine earlier that day.

The couple was taken to T.J Samson Hospital for medical treatment before being housed at the Barren County Detention Center.
