Greg Harris of Glasgow has long worked in the food industry. Through the years his career saw many evolutions, but in 2013 he and his family found their niche when they bought the Subway on the Glasgow Public Square.

He bought a second location in Edmonton in April of 2012, and a third location in Brownsville opened in December of 2021.

“I thought well, I will throw in a second one, and then a third became available,” Harris said.

Although running three locations is a challenge, it has its sweet spots.

“I like being somewhat in control of the product, and the customer service,” he said.

Another aspect of the job he loves is customer relations.

“I know people in every county, and I’ve formed relationships with the customers. It’s fun to get to know people,” Harris said.

Another great aspect of running a franchise is that it’s a family affair.

Greg’s wife Laura is a retired teacher who sometimes helps out at the Glasgow location. His son Steely, 29, works at the Brownsville location, and other son, Henry, 24, works at all locations. Daughter Hadley, 21, has also worked at the family business.

“I think it’s great to get to work with your kids. I hear other parents say that it would not work with their kids this way, but I love it. Sure we have our disagreements and such, but it keeps us together and it keeps us communicating,” Harris said.

As far the nature of the Subway franchise goes, Harris likes that it is healthier than most fast food options, and fresh.

“There are not a lot of fast food paces that can offer healthier choices,” he said.

“All of the products are purchased from one source, and that’s great from a food safety standpoint,” Harris said.

Looking to the future, all three stores will soon be remodeled. The Edmonton location will be the first.

“We will have new ovens, new flooring, new ceilings and all new art,” he said. Although the look will change, the good quality of food and attention to customer service will stay the same.

Harris, left, says that although employee turnover I the food industry is common addition to working with family, he has found some employees woh are life family.
