The city and county electric companies are still working to repair the damage caused by Sunday’s storm.
According to an updated Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation press release there are still roughly 5,000 meters without power across their coverage area. This is down significantly from the original 14,000 meter outages that occurred as the result of the Sunday’s storm.
There is still no timeline as to when Farmers RECC will have the outages mended.
“We know it’s frustrating to not know exactly when the power will be back on and while we would like to provide details on each individual outage, each outage is different and presents its own unique challenges for our crews, which is why estimated restoration times are hard to set and vary for each member,” the updated release states.
Additional service crews from Alabama, Wiregrass Electric and Sand Mountain Electric Cooperatives, and Tennessee, Cumberland Electric Cooperative, have arrived and are working with Farmers RECC to restore power, according to the release.
Farmers RECC are still telling customers with electric dependant medical equipment to make alternate arrangements for the time being. They are also discouraging members from clearing debris from lines and states to treat all lines as if they are electrified.
The lobby will remain closed today to allow them to focus fully on restoration. However, the Glasgow office drive-thru will remain open.
Aaron Russell, marketing and communications director at Glasgow Electric Plant Board, said the Farmer RECC’s outages are causing some EPB customers, mostly outside of the city, to still be without power or internet and cable, but he hopes to have the majority of the issues fixed by midday.
“We have someone out in the area to get that up now,” Russell said. “We still have several areas that are just outside our electric footprint that are still being affected by Farmers outages.”
His latest count put roughly 500 homes without cable or internet primarily because crews had found more fiber breaks in the cables than they originally anticipated, Russell said.
He said there were still some area experiencing issues but, except those incidents where there was excessive damage, power was restored to Glasgow.
“We have just a few isolated areas where they’ve had to clean up a big tree and replace pole,” Russell said. “We’ve got probably less than 5 of those places where we gotta go replace a pole…so we have a few scattered like that but it’s just a few isolated, you know single house incidents like that.”
“The rest of the day will be fixing the cable and internet side,” Russell added.
