The second night of the Barren County fair brought hundreds of people eager for a night of fair games, good food, and numerous other events. One such event, set apart from the ATV rodeo and the fair rides, was a beauty pageant with roughly two dozen pre-teen and teen competitors.
The event, attended by the previous year’s winner and Miss Kentucky, began at 6 p.m. with private interviews between each contestant and the three judges.
Nerves were running high as each girl waited for their moment in front of the judges. Rhylee Briggs, one of the contestants from Greensburg, said she was very confident but nervous as she waited. She said, she arrived at the fair nearly two hours early to get her hair and makeup fixed for the pageant.
At about 8 p.m. following the conclusion of the interviews, the girls changed into their expensive and elaborate dresses and walked across stage to the roaring applause of the friends, family and fair goers present in the audience.
According to the previous year’s winner, the victor of the pageant wins a plaque, a sash, and a spot to compete in a statewide pageant.
In the end, the top 10 contestants were brought back on stage before answering a randomly selected question. Four young girls, two pre-teen and two teenagers, were selected as the 2023 Miss Barren County and 2023 Miss Barren County Fair.
