This Saturday, Aug. 5 marks the 20th annual “Poker Run” at Barren River Lake State Resort Park. The rules of the run are simple, with the main goal being to have the best hand at the end of the run.
Registration is $25 per hand and will go from 9.a.m till noon, with the event ending at 4 p.m. After registering participants will receive their first card and can begin building their hand by traveling by boat (or by land) to four marinas around the park, each giving them another card.
“This is our largest fundraiser of the year,” said Joie Mills, chairman of Friends of Barren River Lake and Park. “Proceeds from this event fund our lake events such as the 4th of July Fireworks, Trash Masters Lake Cleanup, Beach Fest and others.”
Last year marked the largest turnout for the event, and Mills is hopeful that this year will show similar support, but he said the heat this summer could act as a deterrent for some.
The three best hands will receive cash prizes, with first place winning $500, second $250 and third $100.
