Entertain Glasgow’s summer concert series concluded Friday, Aug. 25. The “4th Friday” concerts began May 26, giving residents of the area a free entertainment option to kick off their weekend. These concerts were possible only because of volunteers, who at the last concert began setting up on the Glasgow Square at 8 a.m. working over twelve hours to create the best possible experience for attendees.
The concerts up until the last had been staged at Beaver Creek Park, but were moved back to the square to “shake things up” according to Entertain Glasgow leadership. With residents setting up, the opener, J.D. Clayton, took the stage at 7 p.m. and proceeded to entertain the crowd with original works from his album “Smoke out the Fire.” After nearly an hour Clayton’s final song was a cover of Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl,” leaving the stage to thunderous applause.
The main talent for the evening was The Steel Woods. As the band took the stage audience members crowded around the security barrier to get as close as possible. The crowd was not disappointed as community members danced to “Compared to a Soul” and “Blind Lover.”
“This is an awesome thing, and I’m glad to see it back on the square,” said Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd. “This atmosphere on the square is beautiful, and it’s community, that’s what it’s all about.”
The next Entertain Glasgow event will be a bit different from their concert series. Volunteers are gearing up for Groove and Glow, the largest event of the year for Entertain Glasgow. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Glasgow Municipal Airport.
