One of Entertain Glasgow’s most anticipated events welcomed crowds of residents to the Glasgow Municipal Airport for the third annual Groove and Glow event Saturday, Sept.16

The event began at 4 p.m. with several family activities, food trucks and music. While the beginning of the event saw some light rain showers, the weather did not deter the crowd.

By 6 p.m. food trucks had been so inundated with orders some were quoting wait times exceeding 30 minutes. “We’re waiting on our cheesesteaks right now,” said Sydne Kinslow, enjoying the event with her husband. “They said it’d be about 45 minutes, but I’m determined.”

The free event saw three musical performances with two of those musicians being Barren County natives. The third was a Nashville based Beatles tribute band Forever Abbey Road, coming onto the stage at around 7 p.m. opening with their rendition of “Come Together” to the applause of the more than 1,000 attendees that blanketed the airport.

While the weather did not permit for the tethered hot-air balloon rides, the attendees were treated with aerial feats from a group of powered-parachuters, which, as the name implies, are individuals using a large fan to propel themselves through the air with a parachute.

The balloons may not have gone up but the aeronauts responsible for them did not want to leave the crowds disappointed and delighted the onlookers with a pyrotechnic display using the balloons burners. The rushes of fire meant to keep the balloons aloft can reach up to 20 feet ,and made for a spectacle for families.

Ending at 9 p.m. Entertain Glasgow’s leadership plans on making this a tradition for residents.
