As September turns to October and fall descends on Barren County, residents from both Cave City and throughout the county gather on Broadway Street in Cave City for the monthly Cars and Coffee. The weather was a cool, crisp 57 degrees and a refreshing wind swept across the closed street — one attendee said it “couldn’t be anymore perfect” — as dozen of antique and refurbished cars lined the main drag of the town.

The Cave City Cars and Coffee is held on the first Saturday of every month with this Oct. 7 gathering having the theme of “Triple Threat: Mopar, Camaro and Firebird.” The event, which lasted 8-11 a.m., “features different live music and entrainment, custom event merchandise, and crowd favorite showcase awards. Coffee is served up by Tin Roof and Honey’s Coffee Co. Breakfast is prepared to order from a variety of local food trucks.”

“Over the years Cars & Coffee has become a global phenomenon where thousands of spectators usually join in for the sights and sounds,” the Cars and Coffee website states. “These events happen almost every week in countless locations, with new people joining each time and it’s time we had one here in our town.”

This car show represents the biggest car show in the region. Each month there is a new theme for the show from June Bug and Mustang Mania to Import Nation and Jeep Invasion. Today’s was Triple Threat.

The show featured hundreds of old cars for people to view as they mingled with one another or shopped at one of the many food trucks.

The event was free to the public. The shops that lined the street remained open while the show was underway. “Many believe that all we want is to go fast and be a nuisance, but the opposite is true. In reality, car enthusiasts just want a place to hangout and be around those with a like mind.”

Members of the community used the antique cars for their own personal photo shoots.
