For those who choose to partake of the leaf-pickup service provided by the City of Glasgow to its residents, it’s time to brave the cold snap and get to raking or blowing those leaves to their designated locations.
City crews will begin Monday moving around the city by zones to collect the leaves using a vacuum attachment to a truck, but residents must have them at curbside ready to go on the specified weeks. Leaves must not be on the sidewalk where they can hinder pedestrians or those in scooters from getting through, and they must not be on the street, per city law. Leaves on the street can make the surface more slippery and hazardous, especially for those on motorcycles, and they can be washed into stormwater collection receptacles, causing them become clogged, which then can lead to flooding on the street because the water has nowhere to go.
Each of the four zones has two separate weeks assigned, with a first round including each of the zones and then another round of the same, though the rotation begins with Zone 2.
Collection in Zone 2 is from Nov. 6 through 10 and Dec. 4-9. Zone 3’s pickup dates are Nov. 13-17 and Dec. 11-15. Zone 4’s turns are Nov. 20-22 and Dec. 18-22, and then Zone 1 leaf collection is Nov. 27-Dec. 1 and Dec. 27-29.
Lists of the specific street names within each zone and the map are on the city’s website at this link.
