Astute Glaswegians may remember the green wreaths, usually adorning the Glasgow Public Square’s light posts during the holiday season, appearing during the springtime months of April and May. That atypical springtime Christmas was the result of a holiday themed movie that filmed at various locations in Glasgow. On Thursday, Nov. 30, after roughly four months of waiting, people can see the movie for themselves at Marquee Cinema.
The movie, “A Royal Christmas Surprise,” will be screened for free starting at 8 p.m. with doors opening 30 minutes prior. MacLean Lessenberry, executive director for the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission, said that, while people will be responsible for purchasing their own concessions, the screening was made free to the public through Marquee Cinema that donated one of its theaters to view the roughly 90 minute Christmas romance film.
“[The cinema] wanted to do something for the community,” Lessenberry said. “I thought that was super nice.”
“We’re doing one of the big theaters, so it’ll be around 250 seats. Plenty of seats for anyone who wants to come,” Lessenberry added.
Many locations — such as King’s Cafe, the square, The Old French Restaurant and numerous homes — will be familiar to many viewers as this was one of three movies filmed in Glasgow this year, Lessenberry said.
She said this screening was a nice way to express their appreciation as anything, especially the task of bringing Christmas to Spring, in Glasgow is “a community effort.” She said people are excited about it and she looks for a good turnout.
“It’s exciting and fun that locals get to be a part of this, especially since it’s going to be on a platform like BET+,” Lessenberry said. “We’re super excited about it.”
