Put on some warm clothes and make your way to the Plaza Theatre in downtown Glasgow on Dec. 1, by 7 p.m. to hear a Christmas concert performed by the Glasgow Community Band led by Director Robbie Fudge.

“We are excited about our annual Christmas Concert and we’re looking forward to celebrating the sounds of the seasons,” Fudge said.

Hailing from Barren County and a graduate of Caverna High School, with two degrees in music from Western Kentucky University, Fudge is well-versed in music education. In addition to being the Community Band Director, Fudge is also working towards adding a new music program to the curriculum at the Foundation Christian Academy in Bowling Green.

Formed in the early 2000s by former Glasgow Mayor Charles B. Honeycutt, the community band performs two concerts a year. A summer concert that’s hosted in July and a Christmas concert that’s in December. Both concerts are free to the public.

This year’s concert titled, “Christmas For The Ages,” features 8 to 9 songs and ends on an upbeat with the well-known classic “Sleigh Ride,” that’s commonly played by the Glasgow High School Band during the annual Christmas Parade in Glasgow.

“Anyone who can play an instrument and read music is welcomed to join,” said Fudge while discussing how members join the community band.

Those who are interested in joining are encouraged to join the band’s Facebook Group, Glasgow Community Band/Barrens Big Band Group, to keep up with information regarding when and where the band practices. Citizens are also welcome to send Fudge a message on Facebook Messenger to learn more about the band’s schedule and annual events.
