Thanks to donations from numerous people throughout Barren County, Bridge Kentucky is hosting a $15 bag fill up event from now through mid-to-late January every Thursday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
“We try to do this every quarter. It helps people cut down on expenses of having to buy clothes,” said Director Wade Copas.
Upon arrival, guests will be directed to the 5,000 sq. ft. storage space located in the back of the building and given a 60-gallon bag that they’re encouraged to fill with as many shoes and clothing items that they can fit into the bag. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be used to assist Bridge in continuing to achieve its mission of bridging the gaps in the lives of those who need assistance.
“We use the money to supply our clients with what they need,” Copas said. “Our folks right now really love coffee, so we’ll use the money to supply them with that and other things such as toiletries and paying utilities at Bridge to continue to provide services like the warming room.”
Generally, the event only lasts two days a month, but because the non-profit has a surplus of donations, the event is running longer than usual.
“We’re fortunate and blessed to have so many people to donate to us, but right now we have so much stuff that we really need to reduce our stock so that we can take in other things that some of our other clients might need,” Copas said.
