Robert Chapman, 77, of Rocky Face, Georgia, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at his residence.
Bob was a lifelong coach and teacher, retiring from Dalton Public Schools. A successful, award-winning basketball coach, he influenced the lives of his athletes and students as well. His love for family came first and continued to sustain him. Also, a continuing support system for him was Rock Bridge Community Church, where he was a member.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, William Chapman and Mary Emmitt Chapman, and foster parents, Robert O. Alexander and Margarett Alexander of Glasgow.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Chapman of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Russ Chapman and Gail Turner of Cleveland, Georgia, and Rob and Jacki Chapman of Goode, Virginia; grandchildren, Kinsey Ruth Chapman, Alexis Fisher and Cole Chapman; great-grandchildren, Lawson Fisher, Levi Fisher and another on the way, Lane Fisher; Chapman and Alexander siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Rock Bridge Community Church in Dalton, Georgia, with burial in Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton. Pastor Matt Evans is officiating, and speakers include Scott Brackett and David Evans. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky Face Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home in Rocky Face, Georgia.

Bettye Gayle Edmunds, 76, of Glasgow died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at her home. Bettye was born in Glasgow on July 11, 1947, to the late Kenneth Pace and Joyce Landrum Pace. She married Gary Owen Edmunds on June 21, 1964, in Beckton.
Bettye was a 1965 graduate of Glasgow High School. She worked for New Farmer’s National Bank and Wal-Mart, and she was a homemaker, mother and a member of South Green Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Gary Edmunds; three daughters and one son, Stephanie Garrett (Kenneth), Sammy Edmunds (Lisa), Sheryl England (Shannon) and Sarah Key (David); seven grandchildren, Whitney Fletcher (Chris), Trevor Edmunds, Derek Gossett (Morgan), Desiree Fox (Douglas), Riley Edmunds, Seth Wooden and Sutton Key; three great-grandchildren, Madison Fletcher, Colt Gossett and Clara Fox; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Cynda Crimmins (Dennis); two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Donna Ray (Steve), Mary Lou Manning (Wade) and Wayne Edmunds (Peggy); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kenya Sue Francis, and a nephew, Jonathan Edmunds.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bettye’s memory to South Green Street Church of Christ or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
