While chilly winds continue to bring snow and frigid temperatures to Barren County, Director Carolyn Glodfelter and Mayor Henry Royse are working together to fix a heating issue at the Historic Plaza Theatre in downtown Glasgow.

On Friday, Jan. 12, the boiler broke, which caused the theater to be too cold to host events.

“I haven’t been able to get into the office because of my own personal water issues, but we have people checking on the building during the deep freeze,” Glodfelter said.

In case other problems arise while cold winds continue to blow through town, numerous volunteers have since visited the Plaza to survey the building.

Royse, a boiler repairman, and City Maintenance Engineer Dennis Proffitt met at the theater in hopes of finding a solution. After exploring many options, such as attempting to find an alternative heating source for the building, they chose to focus on getting a replacement part delivered as quickly as possible.

“We have confirmed that the correct part has been ordered and we have confirmed that we’re getting them from the fastest possible source,” Royse said.

It’s anticipated that it will take three to four weeks for the parts to be delivered due to several boiler manufacturing companies lacking the parts needed for the repair. Royse said they haven spoken with many manufacturers who all “provided the same story.”

“I’m disappointed that in the middle of winter, boiler companies don’t have any spare parts in stock, its odd,” he said.

While waiting for parts to arrive, Glodfelter is working with artists and patrons to ensure that everyone is aware of the issue and is provided the information that they need.

“We’re taking it one event at a time,” she said. “People who have other plans, or are unable to attend, or are unsure at this time because it [the 7 Bridges concert] is a couple months away are calling us and we’re handling those right away.”

Currently, the Plaza has rescheduled one concert. 7 Bridges is set to perform May 11 at 7 p.m. instead of this Saturday. Though Glodfelter hasn’t adjusted other upcoming performances, she has contacted the promoters for Niko Moon and Twitty and Lynn so that they are aware of what’s happening.

Those who have bought tickets for upcoming events at the Plaza, or are interested in doing so, are encouraged to visit the Plaza’s Facebook page for regular updates and re-visit Glasgow News 1 as the story continues to develop.
