Elmer Brooks

Elmer Odell Brooks, 92, of Fountain Run died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville. The Akersville native was a retired employee of South Central Rural Telephone Cooperative, former co-owner and operator of H.E. Carter Construction, a U.S. Navy veteran and an old-time Missionary Baptist. After retirement, he worked as a carpenter and restored log homes. He was a son of the late Joseph Benton Brooks and Cora Candace Smalling Brooks.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Agnes Carter Brooks; two sons, Barry Brooks and wife Jane of Tompkinsville and Brian Brooks and wife Karen of Fountain Run; one daughter, Carla Gantz and husband Jerry of Glasgow; two grandchildren, Candace Gearlds (Jeremy) and Lucas Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Brooks and Trace Gearlds; five stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Brooks; one sister, Nell Teresa Brooks; and one stepgreat-grandson.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at Fountain Run Funeral Home, with Bro. Terry Jackson and Bro. Jeremy Yokley officiating and burial in Fountain Run Cemetery with military honors by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday until funeral time at the funeral home. Goad Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Fountain Run Fire Department or Fountain Run Cemetery.
