At 6:30 p.m. the Glasgow Independent Schools Board of Education, made up of five board members and the district’s superintendent, are scheduled to meet in their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 22 at South Green Elementary School. They will discuss a variety of district-related business including approval of an aid agreement with the Barren County Detention Center, approval of revised job descriptions and approval of next academic year’s calendar.
Among the lengthy board agenda is the approval of a “Mutual Aid Agreement between GIS and Barren Co. Detention Center.” According to Tara Martin, district supervisor of instruction, this is an “ongoing agreement” between the district and the jail so that “in the rare occasion they have to evacuate their detainees they could reach out to [the district] to secure transportation services.”
Under the “student services” portion of the board’s agenda is approval of job descriptions for teachers, instructional assistants I and II and migrant education tutors.
“The job descriptions are being revised and updated to reflect the ever changing field of education,” Martin said. “It has been a while since some of the descriptions were updated so we will be looking at and revising all job descriptions between now and July.”
The board members are also scheduled to discuss the Calendar Committee’s recommendation concerning the 2024-2025 school calendar. Board member Barret Lessenberry, who chairs the Calendar Committee, and the other committee members met on Jan. 30 to sift through the public input and to “discuss and decide on Calendar Selection to send to the Board for voting.”
