‘Johnny’ Nelson

“Johnny” Nelson
John Robert “Johnny” Nelson, 77, of Glasgow died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024. Johnny was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Glasgow to the late Ruth Rush Nelson and John Uri Nelson.
After graduating from Glasgow High School in 1966, Johnny served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Shreveport, Louisiana, until 1970. He then began a career with the U.S. Postal Service that would last until his retirement 35 years later. Johnny was a proud member of the Glasgow High School football team and remained a staunch supporter throughout the years.
Johnny’s reputation as an avid hunter and fisherman was unsurpassed. Perhaps no one was more pleased to hear of Johnny’s passing than the local fish and wildlife population. He always knew when the stripe were running, and he spent countless hours telling lies and preparing for deer season with his close friends at Camp Nelson in Metcalfe County. Those fortunate enough to participate in the Opening Day meal at Camp Nelson were certain to never forget.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Brenda Duvall Nelson; one son, Jay Nelson (Ruth); one daughter, Melissa Stone (Wade); three grandchildren, Nelson Stone, Nicholas Stone and Samantha Stone; mother-in-law, Rohena Duvall; brothers and sisters-in-law, Freddy Duvall, Ricky and Rita Duvall, Mike and Billie Joe Duvall and Patty Cates; many nieces and nephews; and one brother, Joe.
Visitation is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any wildlife conservation organization or to the Joe Biden Presidential Campaign.
