At 9 a.m. Friday, March 22, Beta released the finishing placement for the Barren County and Glasgow students who qualified for the National Beta Convention in Savannah, Georgia, from June 16-19.
When the article below was published on March 14 the student, and schools, knew who qualified but did not know their actual placement. That discrepancy was remedied by a virtual meeting. Below are the qualifiers with their respective placements.

The 83rd Annual Senior Beta Convention was held in Lexington which, according to the Beta program of events, took place from Wednesday, Jan. 17, and running until the early morning of Friday, Jan. 19. Both Glasgow Independent and Barren County schools students participated in this annual extracurricular and many students from both schools qualified for the National Beta Convention — scheduled to be in Savannah, Georgia, from June 16-19.
Due to the snowy weather during the time of the convention that made many of the roads between Barren County and Lexington slick and hazardous, Blair Abner, Glasgow’s Beta sponsor, said the participants had to submit all their work online, which is something that Beta has not done in the past.
Despite this, Glasgow had 48 students participate in the convention. According to information released by the school the GHS Beta Club qualified for nationals in nine competition areas: GHS Show Choir, GHS Quiz Bowl Team, Chloe Ball in Drawing, Ellie Ball in French and Mixed Media, Rudra Chaudhary and Ian Paroaci in Social Studies, Audrey Crain in poetry/solo/premier performer, Danica Ingram in pottery and Erin Penny in Quilling.
“They are qualifiers but we won’t know if they got first, second, third, fourth or fifth in state until the live session on Friday the 22nd,” Abner said via text message. “We did have to submit everything online this year and wait a month for judging.”
Barren County Schools also participated in the convention and, according to information provided by Heather Gardner, public relations assistant for the district, had several students and groups qualify.
In the state convention events qualifiers include Mollie Webb, Abigail Coleman and Adeline Coleman in Agriscience, Tyler Carnes-Christie in Social Studies, Anna Kate Alexander, Madyson Coots, Kendall Esters and Isaac Gentry in Musicology, Kaelin Burks in Speech D2, Faith Ann Campbell in Fiber Arts D1, Andrew Chapman in Recyclable Art D1, Karden Kinslow in Woodworking D1, Katelyn Huffaker in Black and White Photography D2, Anna Thorpe in Hand-Drawn Anime D2, Abigail Coleman in Recyclable Art D2, Jacob Spence in Woodworking D2, Madyson Coots in Accessorized Design (shoes) and technology, Kylie Lessenberry for Apparel Design (t-shirt), Karden Kinslow and Cydney Harrison in Living Literature, Lane Schlafke and Steele Whitaker in Solo, Duo, Trio – Variety Act, Campaign Skit, Show Choir, Large Group Talent.
The district also had seven individuals selected as “premier performers.” The dancer premier performers were Tinsley Neagle and Emma Smith while the premier performer vocalists were Anna Kate Alexander, Abby Carter, Madyson Coots, Kendall Esters and Jackson Smith.

According to Gardner’s information, 15 students also qualified across three “leadership summit events.” Parker Moran, Andrew Chapman, Grant Harper, Karden Kinslow, Kira Kemper and Kylie Lessenberry participated in “Collaboration Connections.” For “Lead Outside the Box” Kendal Esters, Jaycee Bunch, Lucy Zalla and Emma Smith placed. Adeline Coleman, Raeleigh Ray, Madyson Coots, Abigail Coleman and Anna Kate Alexander participated in the “Project Proposal.”
According to Superintendent Amanda Abell Caverna Independent Schools did not participate and thus had no qualifiers.
