Glasgow Police Department officers and administrators are presently trying decide how to deal with tragic news received Sunday.
Guy Howie, GPD chief, sent a statement via email at 9:39 a.m. confirming the Kentucky State Police’s information that Sgt. Cameron Murrell and his wife Tracy York-Murrell were involved in a fatal crash Sunday afternoon. The officer was injured and his wife was confirmed dead at the scene by the Taylor County Coroner.
“The Glasgow Police Department is deeply saddened to confirm the tragic loss of Tracy Murrell, wife of Sgt. Cameron Murrell, in an automobile crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Taylor County,” the release stated. “Tracy Murrell succumbed to her injuries because of the accident, while Sgt. Cameron Murrell was treated and subsequently released from medical care. Sgt. Cameron Murrell is a valued member of our department, and our hearts ache for him during this incredibly difficult time. The entire Glasgow Police Department extends our sincerest condolences and support to Sgt. Murrell and his family as they navigate this devastating loss.”
“There’s no plans [at this time] of course that is subject to change,” Terry Flatt, public information officer, said. “I’ll have to talk to the chief and we may decide to do something.”
Flatt was responding to being asked if the department might set up a fund or special event to aid the officer and his family.
The chief’s statement came after a two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of one person and injured three others in Taylor County — a Kentucky county northeast of Barren — on Sunday, April 21. KSP responded to the collision on Ky. 55 at 4:12 p.m. and found that Allen Glen Yates, 60, of Columbia was driving a vehicle that crossed the center line then hit a 2021 Nissan Rogue that was traveling in the southbound lane, which was driven by Tracy York-Murrell, 39.
Following the crash, Cameron, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, was taken to the University of Louisville hospital and has since been released, according to information provided by the press release.
This is an ongoing story and this article will be updated when more information becomes available.
