Matt Mutter, chair of the veterans' wall committee, places the first of the new six-by-six squares etched with the names of Glaswegians and Barren Countians who served in one of the branches in the U.S. armed forces. According to Mutter these are the first names added to the Veteran's Wall of Honor since the pandemic. "These are the first names we've put up since I've been chairman... so it's got special meaning to me," Mutter said. "Plus a lot of people on this wall I'm familiar with; have known all my life and are good friends." Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.

In total there were 50 new names added to the wall. According to Mutter in each section of names are in alphabetical order, which is the reason some names were submitted long before they were hung up. “We like to have somewhere between 30 and 40 [names] and that’s why sometimes it takes a little longer because we can’t just come out and put one or two names up at a time,” Mutter said. Based on the measurements of the plaques, and taking into account the quantity, Mutter and Gearlds, along with the consensus of those present, decide on the layout. Ultimately the pair decided on nine rows and six columns. Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.

Before the plaques could be hung up on the black, concrete wall the few men – Matt Mutter, Mike Kinslow, Philip Gearlds (shown in the photo) and Dennis Proffitt – had to sand the gloss and drill holes for the underneath runner. All-in-all the process took approximately two-and-a-half hours. Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.

Gearlds, the former chairman, helped put up the plaques around 1:30 on May 16. Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.

According to the Glasgow website there are, excluding the newly added 50, 1,667 names on the wall. The Veterans Wall of Honor is located at Beula C. Nunn Park in the corner of the Glasgow Square. Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.
