The National Weather Service of Louisville recently released its damage survey after the bouts of severe weather battered much of the commonwealth the last weekend of May.

According to the survey, an EF1 tornado — meaning its winds were between 86 and 110 miles per hour — touched down in the southern part of Barren County uprooting trees and causing some structural damage. The survey states the tornado started near Peter Creek about 11 miles south of Glasgow before continuing in the forest along Dorsey Road.

“Drone footage was impressive with both the extent and directions of the uprooted trees with clear indication of convergence as the tornado crossed Peter Creek,” the survey states.

The tornado crossed Oil Well and Dry Fork roads with some structural damage observed near the intersection of Dry Fork and Cooktown roads. All-in-all, the survey states “A few carports were damaged and a barn had collapsed walls consistent with EF1 95 mph wind speeds.”

The tornado ended near Shoal Creek with at least 30 trees uprooted and damaged. The survey further states the path length was 7.62 miles with a width of 150 yards. No injuries nor deaths were reported on the survey.

Marcus Thurman, deputy emergency management director, said they are still working on the emergency management damage report southwest of Glasgow “along Scottsville Road and further east along [the] Falling Timber Creek area,” but said most of the damage in that area would likely be from “straight line winds.”
