The Barren County Board of Education has named Christa Middleton as director of Special Programs. Mrs. Middleton attended Western Kentucky University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2003, Master of Arts in Education for Learning and Behavior Disorders in 2006, Rank 1 Certification for Director of Special Education in 2019 and Level I Principal Certification in 2020.

Middleton began her career with Barren County Schools as a Special Education teacher, working at Barren County Middle from 2004-2009 and North Jackson Elementary from 2009-2019. Currently, she serves as a Teacher Consultant for Special Programs, the English Learner Coordinator, and the Trojan Way Center Coordinator.

Middleton takes over for the current Director of Special Programs Cynthia York, who officially announced her retirement during a Board of Education meeting on April 19.

“I have worked closely with Christa throughout her time in Barren County Schools, and she has excelled in every position she has held,” York said. “She has developed as a leader who has a heart for students, and I know she will do outstanding work in this new role.”

York’s retirement is effective July 1, at which time Middleton will officially begin her new role.

“I am honored to be named as the next director of Special Programs for Barren County Schools,” Middleton said. “I look forward to serving in this capacity and carrying forward Barren County’s commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments that empower all students to reach their full potential.”
