The Glasgow Community Band, a group of roughly 40-50 lifelong musicians of spanning a wide swath of ages, will hold a free public concert on the Glasgow downtown square on Friday, July 5.
The concert on the square has been a staple in the Glasgow community for at least a decade, according to band conductor Robbie Fudge, who has been conducting these concerts since 2004. Though it changes from year to year this concert’s theme is “A Night at the Movies” where, as Fudge explains, will feature roughly a dozen theme songs from “blockbuster hits.”
“Every summer we try to come up with some kind of theme to base our music repertoire and interests around,” Fudge said. “One summer it was Broadway Tunes; another summer it may have been music of the 70s or 80s. There’s a lot of great movies out there and of course one of the greatest movie composers is John Williams…so we wanted to have something for everyone [on Friday].”
Todd Steenbergen will serve as the master of ceremonies for the concert.
The event starts at 7 p.m. as Fudge believes will be concluded by 8:15 p.m. As stated the concert is free to the public, but audience members are encouraged to bring their own seating. Fudge said there is no plan currently if it were to rain, or if some other weather-related issue arises, however in years past the concert moved into the Plaza Theatre if that happened though Fudge is unsure if that is an option given the month though the possibility of rescheduling cannot be disregarded.
“We want to provide free entertainment to the community,” Fudge said. “We’re playing stuff kids and adults will love. It’s just great music we’ve all grown up with.”
