As typical with June and July meetings, the Glasgow Independent Schools Board members met at the district’s central office for a 4-minute-long regular meeting and they approved three new district positions.

Two of the five board members — Neil Thornberry and Barret Lessenberry — were absent, but a quorum was present with Chairperson Amelia Kiser, Mary Burchett-Bower, Reggie Hayden gathering in the small conference room to call to order the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Though the meeting was only four minutes, and Kiser opted to accept all the “operation items” as one motion, the board members did approve to “create one Learning and Behavior Disorder and/or Emotional or Behavioral Disorder” teaching position and one “Functional Mental Disability” teaching position.

“This is more of a proactive approach as our numbers in the elementary schools seem to be climbing in these areas,” Muhlenkamp said. “We don’t know if we need them yet but we’re right on the cusp of being at capacity so we’re just trying to be on the front end of it so as enrollment is happening…we can add those positions if we need to and already have them approved.”

Towards the beginning of the meeting Burchett-Bower motioned to amend the agenda to include the approval of an emergency certification for a Glasgow Middle School mathematics teacher. Which, to use Muhlenkamp’s words, allows the district to look at, and potentially hire, applicant for the position that might have the required time but maybe not the technical certification.

The full agenda can be viewed here.
