The Barren County Middle School Site-Based Decision Making Council is set to meet Tuesday, July 23, in a special-called meeting with the singular goal of discussing the now-open position of the middle school principal.
The position was formerly held by Michael Davis, who vacated the position on July 22 to fill the role of director of elementary instruction.
According to Heather Gardner, district communication officer, the selection process is much the same as the process the district went through to select a high school principal including SBDM training, screening of applicants, interviewing top candidates, a vote and approval.
Another step in the selection process requires the middle school principal position to be posted at least 15 days before a final selection can be made, however, Gardner said, with the academic year looming the district can apply for a waiver of that requirement through the Kentucky Department of Education. Gardner said, at the time of publication, they have not applied.
According to the district’s job postings the middle school principal position was posted on July 20.
Barren County Middle School’s Site-Based Decision Making council includes Superintendent Amy Irwin, teachers Jaime Ayres , Amanda Moore, Gregory McCord, Catherine Ward, parents Ricky Garmon, Cynthia Craig and Shana Vincent.
