The Barren County School District welcomed a new position into its ranks recently with the announcement that Justin Browning would begin serving as the district’s Career and Technical Education and Innovation Coordinator.

According to the district’s announcement, and coupled with his explanation of the job description, Browning will “oversee work-based learning experiences for students and collaborate with workforce, industry, and post-secondary partners to ensure that students are life-ready.”

“I’ve worked in Career and Technical Education for the past few years here at Barren County Schools where I look at transition readiness for high school juniors and seniors,” Browning said. “Now what the district is doing is being more intentional…about continuing that work.”

Before his appointment to this new role, Browning said there were numerous individuals within the district doing aspects of the job, but, as the district is being more intentional, those have been compiled into his new position where he will work not only with students but also with the Kentucky Department of Education and oversee teachers in the 38 career pathways BCS offers.

In addition to this district position Browning is also an assistant principal at Barren County High School supporting the day-to-day operations of the school’s Innovation Zone, which is a building on the school’s campus aimed at Career and Technical Education — something Browning said is not only beneficial to the students but to the wider community as well.

“The Glasgow/Barren County community relies on our students even when they’re in high school to go work,” Browning said. “We’ll have 300 different placements a year; students who are leaving campus during the school day to go out and work.”

All in all, with the upcoming academic year rapidly approaching, Browning said he is “excited” to begin in this new role.

“I’m blessed to have [the district’s] support and the fact that they trust me with these highly-valuable programs,” Browning said. “At Barren County Schools we’re always looking at what’s next so really all this is pointing to making these kids life ready and I’m standing at the launch platform and saying ‘Are you ready? Yes. Go.’”
