Foregoing the pomp and circumstance for a more boots-on-the-ground approach Scott Chapman has been named as the new director of transportation for the Barren County School District.
Chapman replaces former Director of Transportation Joey Bunch, who was named as the Barren County Middle School principal during a July 31 press conference.
According to a press release from the district, Chapman began his career in education in 1999 when he began teaching Physical Education classes with Metcalfe County Schools until 2014 when he transferred to Barren County High School and taught PE there. A few years later, specifically in 2022, he became dean of students at the high school. Throughout Chapman’s career he “has served as a bus driver, working with the Barren County Schools Transportation Department to maintain his Commercial Driver’s License with a school bus endorsement and passenger transport endorsement.”
Chapman is also a 1994 graduate of Barren County High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from WKU five years later in 1999 and later his master’s in Educational Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University in 2006.
“We have a wonderful group of people in our transportation department,” Chapman said. “They play a vital role in the district, safely carrying our students to and from school each day. Knowing from personal experience the rewards and challenges of driving a school bus, I deeply respect our drivers, mechanics, and bus garage staff. I look forward to serving our students, families, and staff in my new position.”
“Scott Chapman is a wonderful educator and leader,” BCS Superintendent Amy Irwin said in the press release. “As a bus driver, teacher, and dean of students, he has built a strong rapport with our school community. I know he will continue to be an asset to BC Schools as our Director of Transportation.”
