With the swearing-in ceremony of Major Paul Reynolds during the Aug. 12 Cave City City Council meeting, the Cave City Police Department officially has a new police chief.
Reynolds became a police officer in 2003 and joined the Cave City Police Department in 2016. Since that time he has served in multiple capacities within the department, namely as a K-9 handler and as a detective. He also served on the Barren River Drug Task Force, a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement agency that consists of Glasgow police officers, Cave City police officers, Barren County Sheriff’s deputies and Metcalfe County Sheriff’s deputies, leading, as Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher put it, “… a lot of complex operations” during his five-year stint.
During the time between his appointment and the retirement of former CCPD chief Darrell Butler, who announced his retirement in late July after 13 years with the department, including five as chief, Reynolds served as the interim police chief.
As the motion passed unanimously, Reynolds walked up to the dais and had his wings pinned on to his collar by his wife and Hatcher offered his hand saying he “wanted to be the first person” to shake the newly-christened chief’s hand.
“I feel he is very deserving and has earned this,” the mayor said.
After Reynolds’ swearing-in ceremony by City Attorney Bobby Richardson, the CCPD took to social media expressing the department’s wholehearted support at his promotion.
“As Chief of Police, Reynolds will undoubtedly continue to lead with integrity, dedication, and a strong sense of duty,” the department wrote. “His proven track record with each promotion and his unwavering commitment to our community make him the ideal leader for the Cave City Police Department. We are confident that under his leadership, our department will continue to thrive and make a positive impact on the lives of our citizens.”
In addition to this position, Hatcher also announced Reynolds would hold the title of the in-the-field Alcoholic Beverage Coordinator.
