The American fast food restaurant chain made famous by its “original chicken sandwiches” and the chain’s religious overtones, Chick-fil-A, has filed its intent to build a stand-alone location in Glasgow.
According to a plat recorded in the Barren County Clerk’s Office, the fast food chain’s brick-and-mortar location will be on N.L. Rogers Wells Boulevard, otherwise known as US 31-E, near Magnolia Drive and the Hillview and Stonehenge apartments.
The plat, which was prepared by Young, Hobbs and Associates and consists of roughly 11 acres, lists the owner as Splash Car Wash Inc. — a company under Express Wash Operations LLC that has locations in Campbellsville, Columbia, Edmonton and Greensburg — and its developer as Chick-fil-A.
Specifically the survey plat divides the property into three different lots. The first lot is roughly 2.47 acres, or 107,528 square feet, the second in 4.5 acres and the third is 3.95 acres.
Chick-fil-A has been in operation since 1946 and as of now has more than 2,600 locations in the United States. Unlike other franchise fast-food chains that allows anyone with the funds to purchase and operate a franchise, Chick-fil-A touts its “unique model” that requires a prospective franchise owner to go through a “rigorous selection process” that only allows a few to become franchise owners. The company states the process ensures that each location maintains the same high level of quality and customer service that Chick-fil-A is known for.
Specifically, the selection process begins with a hopeful franchisee submitting an application and undergoing “several rounds of interviews with [Chick-fil-A’s] representatives.”
Another uniqueness to the company’s franchise is that the franchisee serves more as an operator with the company owning the real estate and equipment and the operator paying rent to the company for the building. Chick-fil-A also charges a flat fee to their franchisees instead of taking a percentage of their sales. According to FMS Franchise, a franchise consulting firm, the initial fee is $10,000 with “a 15 percent royalty fee on gross sales each year.”
The company also is “very involved” in the site selection, having a team of real estate professionals who help identify potential sites. The company also works with the franchisee to design and build the restaurant.
According to the Chick-fil-A restaurant finder, the closest restaurant to Glasgow is in Bowling Green.
This is the initial article. More specifics on the Glasgow location will be posted as the information becomes available such as the timeline of construction.
