Mammoth Cave to host BARK Ranger Day Aug. 17

Mammoth Cave National Park invites the public for the inaugural B.A.R.K. Ranger Day on Aug. 17.

According to the National Park Service website the schedule of activities begins at 9:30 a.m. with half-mile “Guided Walk at Sloan’s Crossing Pond” that encourage attendees to grab a “sturdy leash” and join park rangers on a morning walk along the pond’s boardwalk. The guided walk ends an hour later at 10:30 a.m.

Bark Ranger certificates and table talk activities, where people “learn what it means to be a B.A.R.K. Ranger,take the official B.A.R.K. Ranger oath and chat with the rangers stationed in the picnic area near the visitor center,”are scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

From 12:30-1:30 p.m. there is to be an amphitheater program entitled “A history of Dogs at Mammoth Cave.”

“Learn all about the 100% certified good boys and girls who have left their paw prints on Mammoth Cave’s history,” the program webpage states.

The day is capstoned by another half-mile guided walk at Heritage Trail from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

“Grab your leash, some water, a few oopsie bags, and your favorite hooman for an outdoor adventure that’s sure to be a howlin’ good time,” Mammoth Cave’s social media post states.

According to the park, this is the only B.A.R.K. Ranger event currently scheduled but they hoped to host additional events in the future.
