The Glasgow-Barren County Soccer Cooperative Board of Directors met on Aug. 27 to discuss, besides the reports and financials, a potential land purchase.
The meeting was attended by personnel from both Glasgow Independent and Barren County schools, Glasgow Parks and Recreation Director Eddie Furlong, Barren County Parks and Recreation Director Chris Jennings, Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse and Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd.
It was Byrd who broached the subject of a potential land purchase. Specifically, the land in question was the roughly 14.6 acres located behind the complex and fronting the Cumberland Parkway. According to the Property Valuation Administration, the property is currently owned by Burton Subdivision LLC.
Byrd said she sent the information to Richard Tutt, American Engineer’s vice president for Project Development, to find out what the possibilities the land would hold for the complex.
“We can actually add two fields and more parking,” Byrd said. “The parking [Tutt] is adding in the back is almost comparable to what we have in the front and we could take care of those two new fields with that parking.”
The discussion mostly revolved around the cost of the land and what would be necessary to level it out to make it build ready. For specifics the board of directors went into closed session as allowed in Kentucky Revised Statute 61.810.
The soccer complex is located on Cleveland Avenue and is used for the fall soccer league.
“I do think this is something we should entertain,” Byrd said.
