The Glasgow Police Department’s investigation into the July 20 house fire that resulted in the death of Heather Berube is in its final stages, according to GPD Public Information Officer Terry Flatt.

As previously reported, the house fire occurred at 117 Hummingbird Lane and the police received the call around 7 a.m. after fire fighters discovered Berube’s body. Two days later, on July 22, Glasgow Fire Chief William Rock said the state fire marshal’s office investigated the scene and would compile their findings.

The fire marshal’s investigation report was written by Deputy Fire Marshal Michael Killebrew. According to the report, the fire “spread under [the] crawl space and vented itself out a vent underneath the front bedroom window.” He also stated the bedroom had two spots burned “through to the crawlspace” and a candle that appeared to have fallen through into the crawlspace. He also stated the bedroom door was closed when GFD entered the home.

“We could not find a cause [of the fire] due to electrical, however the circuit to bedroom was tripped which is common during fire suppression or shorting out during [the] fire,” the report stated.

Samples of the carpet were collected by the police department for “accelerant detection” and photographs were taken. Flatt said the department will hopefully finish the investigation and release additional information soon. Flatt declined to comment on whether “foul play” was suspected.

Barren County Coroner Tim Gibson said he had the autopsy and toxicology report and would release them after he had spoken to one of Berube’s family members Friday morning.
