Motivational speaker Kate Garnes will be speaking at Barren County Middle School on Monday, September 9, at 8:00 a.m. and again at 9:30 a.m.
Garnes is an author, DJ, choreographer, and podcast host who has delivered talks to students throughout the nation. Kate’s mission is to “help teens find their worth and value when nobody shows up to tell them they are worthy or valuable.”
September is Suicide Prevention Month, and Garnes’ appearance is part of the larger middle school initiative to raise awareness about the importance of student mental health. Community partner Graves Gilbert Clinic is sponsoring the event in partnership with the Barren County Middle School Youth Service Center.
“We can’t overemphasize the importance of equipping students with the knowledge and coping skills which are critical to good mental health,” Lorie Ryan, BCMS youth service center coordinator, said. Our goal in bringing Garnes to the middle school is to empower students to advocate for themselves and take ownership of their life journey. We are thankful for the support of Graves Gilbert Clinic; they are a wonderful community partner,”
