A prominent figure in Barren County history and former Judge-Executive Charles Dale Burchett died at the age of 88 on Sept. 13 after a brief illness.

Burchett attended the University of Kentucky College of Law after a brief stint in the U.S. army. He was granted admission to the Kentucky Bar in 1960 and six years later was elected as Glasgow City Court Judge.

In 1970 Burchett was elected as Barren County Judge for two terms before serving as the first Barren County Judge-Executive in 1978 due to a 1975 revision of the state’s constitution that separated judicial and executive duties of county judges thereby creating the new chief executive office.

Current Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd and the seven magistrate observed a moment of silence before the Sept. 17 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting.

“Before we get started today we’re going to do a moment of silence for former Barren County Judge-Executive Dale Burchett,” Byrd said.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow. View Burchett’s full obituary here.
