Barren County book lovers are in for a treat this Halloween season. One More Chapter Bookstore will open its doors in Cave City. The store is the culmination of owner Taylor Ferrell’s lifelong love of literature and a year of hard work and planning.

“My family and I have all been readers,” she said. “I’d always thought about opening up a bookstore, but you know, you never think you’re going to do it.”

The rising action that motivated Ferrell to make her fantasy a reality came from a book group she had joined on social media, where she noticed a common issue the group members experienced — the lack of a bookstore in the area. Galvanized by her community and her own passion, Ferrell, armed with years of experience in finance, began researching the process of opening her own business.

“I had to find a place,” she said. “We had a business plan, but you have to have a place and that was difficult.”

Fortunately, the burgeoning business found a base in the McCoy Place at 508 Broadway St. in the downtown area of Cave City. “When we visited this space, it was just perfect, and everyone was so nice.” she said. “And I said, ‘This is what I want.’”

After a lengthy process Ferrell signed the lease in August, and has since worked to get the store ready for the day when its doors are cracked open to Barren County’s voracious readership.

While the store’s shelves were empty during an recent interview, Ferrell spoke on her plans to offer a diverse selection of genres. “I read mostly fantasy, romance and some cozy-mysteries, you know, the typical girl stuff,” she said. “But we’ll also have plenty of true crime, thrillers and young adult fiction.”

Ferrell pointed out that she is open to taking suggestions on books or genres that the community would like to see stocked in the store, and mentioned that the best ways to make suggestions would be through the store’s Facebook, or contacting the store at 270-773-BOOK.

Ferrell has also made plans to host local authors for readings and signings as the business ingrains itself in the community. As part of its development, Farrell has joined the Cave City Chamber of Commerce. “I hope to work with them, and maybe lead me in the right direction, ’cause I’m brand new to this,” she laughed.

While a set date has not been released by the chamber as of this writing, Ferrell confirmed that an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place in mid-October. As a final thought, Farrell expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support Barren County has given the new store, as well as her excitement for this new journey she has penned.
